Good Skin is God's Gift; Maintaining it is Man's Willing (Part 1)

Yes, thou shall not be too complacent about having good skin.

Good Skin is god’s gift of good genes. Well, chubs doesn’t have absolutely perfect skin, but at least it is a problem-free one.

Gonna share with you peeps on what i had use before or am still using now. Start raving the god-sent products and rantings the yeekies! Hehe!

I must say chubs is not exactly the usual girl who invest losta $$ on skin care – coz I was a lazy one and too complacent about having good skin. But…I do have my fair share of fetishes on Hand / body creams, shower gels, stuff from Bath & Body works, H&M, Kiehls and H2Oplus etc..etc…

=======================================================

Kudos and congrats to my bestie, Coco, the newly crowned Miss Chinese Sydney (悉尼华商小姐) for sharing losta dolling up tips (tho im still lazy cementing my face..hehe) And you are right, 世界没有丑人,只有懒…!

=======================================================

Okie, Here’s [Chubs’ sinful collection], ranking #2 after chubs’ shoes collection.

Cellnique:

Originated from Malaysia, I was in fact a little skeptical until I had heaps of thumbs up from Flin, MJ and their friends about the wonders of it, so I tried it…..i didn’t regret a pin bit. Haha.

What it is: Cellnique pro sebum gel. Just massage into your t-zone and nose. Remember to regularly exfoliate your face for best results with pro sebum gel. Apply twice a day after your toner

What it does: Clears away your black heads/ white heads. AMAZING isn’t it?

Ladies will love this! Men…you too!

Available: You can buy them almost all pharmacies, Watsons, Guardian and Sasa in Malaysia. Sasa in Singapore carries it too but it’s a little (about S$7) more expensive. I bought mine in KL during MJ’s wedding. Uh-oh, unfortunately cant get them in Sydney =(

Yays Or Yeeks: Yays! It works!! Chubs saw results in 10 days of usage. Chubs’ nose is squeaky clean!

Great for people like me…who doesn’t go for facials AT ALL coz im afraid of the pricking and squeezing!! *gasps*

Not too sure if it will still works if you go beyond the second bottle tho, coz MJ said, she is seeing less effect when she moved on the 2nd bottle. We shall see =)

=============================================

H2O plus:

I simply love H2O plus, was conquering my vanity space in Sydney. Everything from head to toe is from H2O. Here’s some of the stuff I have (cant finish all here)

* Eye Oasis: Really gooooooood! It is light for tropical use and yet enuff moisture to hydrate your eye area

* Eye Mender restorative firming treatment: Thumbs up!! Use it after the eye oasis for maximum results.

* Renewing microexfoliant: Not too bad! Tho I still love the Kiehls one more..

* Sea mineral mud mask: Not bad too. Always carry it in my travel pouch

* Waterwhite brightening mask: THUMBS UP! Cleans your face really well. Have been using this since 1999. Works perfect in the tropics as well as Down Under and the West sides…

* Etc..

Here are the rest that I always brought along in my travel pouch for my business trips:

* Pumice foot scrub: total relaxation after my day ended

* Sea mineral scrub: It serves as an exfoliate as well. Very refreshing!

* Sea salt body wash: I alternate this with my Bath and body Works Shower gel

* Marine Toner: This is so-so only, I prefer my Kose Grandain and Bobby Brown’s Toner

* Marine Daily Hydrator: Nice! But only in Sydney. S’pore’s too humid, I feel uncomfy soon.

* Hydrating Body Butter: Perfect!! I use this a lot in Sydney as well as Europe business trips where the air is dry. Actually, it works okie in tropical countries.

* Marine Cleansing gel: okie….i don really like this….this has already retired into the drawers, out of my pouch already.

* Etc..

Yays Or Yeeks: Overall, a BIG YAYS! But of coz, there are some products in which I have to discontinue when I’m in Singapore coz the weather is humid and I feel all sticky (tho it is a water based product). Thank goodness my fav products are still on my vanity table when I moved back to Singapore from Sydney.

======================================================

LaneigeWater Sleeping Pack Plus:

Cant live without this!!! Apply this every night without fail and wake up the next morning with fabulous face. It is so hydrated (yet, doesn’t feel oily etc) you can actually feel that you skin is so boing boing hehe. Another product that i cant live without. I love night water packs as it nourishes and hydrates my skin when im resting (our body’s skin repairs happens usually 9 to 11pm) but not every product is good. I tried Clinique’s. It was great! But only in Sydney and Europe. In Singapore, I still feel a lil greasy when I wake up the next day.

Laneige works best! Doesn’t feel Danish Pastry when I wake up every morning.

Yays or Yeeks: Thumbs Up!! Cant live without it! Try it peeps!

=================================================

Bobbi Brown

I seldom use Bobbi Brown’s product as I felt my face being greasy after I went into the sun (I hate being in the sun anyway….) However, I must emphasized that the product is actually not bad if used in les humid countries.

Well…I bought a whole lot of stuff including Bobbi Brown’s product at the Estee Lauder sale coz Cynthia works as the Brand Manager for La Mer and Bobbi Brown, so…perhaps I should try BB’s stuff again.

* Lip Balm: ohh..this is simply wonderful. And the packaging is shiny so you can use the reflective surface as a mirror. Used this during my stay in Greece – I must say, it is quite good. Moisturizing, yet doesn’t look greasy.

* Brightening Facial Water: This is darn good especially when I came back from Greece looking sooo tanned. It did help to sooth out my face’s skin tone. When im lazy, I use this like a toner too…hehe!

* Brightening Essence: I only use this at night as it gives me a greasy feel after like 3 hours. Gives good result when used with the Brightening Facial Water.

* Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation: Oops…I haven’t use it yet. Haha. Coz im a hardcore Ettusias supporter when it comes to make up. Nevertheless I bought this at the sale coz its cute! It is actually pasty-looking when in the container but when you apply on your face, it turned powdery. The coverage is good and remains smooth on the skin. Not bad, so I bought it. If not for these reviews….i forgotten that I have yet to open this pack yet. Hohoho!

Yays Or Yeeks: Well….i will give it a 50-50. I don’t mind using it occasionally during my business trips where weather is less humid and colder, which allows my face to be better moisturize yet not feeling greasy.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So much for Part 1. Chub’s just returned from business trip. There are more products that i have from the brands above - juz no time to finish all of them.

Stay tune to this space in the next blog of Good Skin: God's Gift or Man's Willing

Okie...trying to squeeze all of them in

My fav H2Oplus! Partial of them.

The sinful buys (partial only) hehe!

UNSW Asia Open House

20 Jan 2007, Tanglin Campus

UNSW Asia Open House

The day started early at 8.30am where I drove into the campus, getting ready to start an exciting day – a day in which we had been planning for some time. Meeting new prospective students who will be enrolling in UNSW Asia just excites me.

Though today we will mainly be advising the lifestyle of UNSW’s education system and experiences, we will not be able to attract students to UNSW Sydney Campus where my alma mata resides. Today’s open house basically targets students who are interested in our Asia campus in Singapore.

Photos can be found here: http://chuppachubbs.multiply.com/photos/album/33

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thank god I had done all the set up of the student consultation and alumni centre yesterday evening so that we can buffer time this morning for other help that Angela perhaps will need for the day.

Everything looked good and ready to go. The flora and fauna were placed gorgeously to welcome our guests; Aussie Barbe all set up for hungry guests; Alumni Center and merchandise area are all ready to provide testimonials to eager prospective students…

Everything’s good to start the exciting day. We will leave the rest to God to decide the weather for today.

The volunteers strides in about 930am and I got them their Polo-T, Lanyards and name tags. Polo-T : BRIGHT GREEN! Wooohooo…really bright! Oh well….UNSW Asia’s corporate color is conceptualized based on Singapore’s Green City. Explains why…

Special Guest Appearance! Ning Hao! Holy soul! I haven’t met Ning Hao since I left Sydney…or to be précised, after my final year.

Little ‘Geeky’ Ben also turned up pretty early in the morning and stayed till about noon.

The day went on fine. I haven’t had any time for lunch although I was so looking forward to our long-awaited Aussie Barbe……….well, I guessed I didn’t missed out a lot coz the barbe is SOOO DARN local! Sausauges….TMD! it was those canned sausages where local people loved to refer to as “hot-dogs” MAN! Don’t you guys get it?! Hotdog refers to luxurious sausages stuff cozily in fluffy hotdog buns layered with a canopy of yummy-creamy-hot onion cheese!!!

Sausages. Hmmp!

Okie..since the “hotdogs” already pisses me off so much, I don’t really wanna go into the chickee wings. Utterly disappointed

Move on.

Busy day went on with more consultation work and the sale of merchandise. The crowd thinned off when the heavy pour started. Darn.

At about 4pm, we decided to call it a day, and went to the library to watch the HAMPI.

Special Feature of the Open House: PLACE – HAMPI Augmented stereographic panoramas of Vijayanagara, India

PLACE-Hampi is an embodied theatre of participation in the drama of Hindu mythology focused at the most significant archaeological, historical and sacred locations of the World Heritage site Vijayanagara (Hampi), South India.

Enfolded in this interactive installation, viewers explore a virtual landscape of panoramic locations enlivened by animated mythological events that reveal the folkloric imagination of contemporary pilgrims active at the temple complex.

Comprised of high resolution augmented stereoscopic panoramas and surrounded by a rich aural field PLACE-Hampi articulates an unprecedented level of viewer co-presence in a narrative re-discovery of a cultural landscape.

Woohoo! Angela was kind to arrange some light buffet snacks with wine and beer at the study room in the library. And of coz, Ferdi, Mark and me HAVE to patronized the VERY-WELCOMING room. Heee! WE ended up juz having some juices coz the buffet was not ready as yet. Ferdi needs to go church while Mark and me will leave about the same time. Anywayz…it was raining dinosaurs and elephants now – cant get out. So we had more juices and left about 15 minutes later.

*tired*

Day’s not over yet (told ‘ya its going to be a LONG tiring day).
Went back to shower and waited for Ah BIL to pick me up to Gina’s baby Jarius’ Fool (oops…full) month’s bash! Simply too tired to even drive..or move my soul.......

After the buffet (AGAIN!!) dinner which we basically scrapped the food off the tray (we reached about 9, you see) we were off to Shamen’s house to watch soccer. Ohhh of coz, anaconda-chubs was hungry again.

Bought some fried rice, shared with Junbin and then continue to SWEAR!!! TMD!! ^*&$%^&U@$%&^ Liverpool goal? What the….??!! DAMN! I predicted a draw…..CHELSEA you buggers better score lo!

OKie…match ended with chub’s head fuming like Mt Kinabalu……..

Fine fine fine…gawk about it Junbin!

UNSW newbies Pre-D Seminar

~phew~ Its over =)

It was at the eleventh hour that i was needed to give a speech at the Pre-Departure Seminar for the UNSW Sydney newbies.

Alrighty, so i went ahead to prepare and speak. Kelvin and me decided to speak together as it will make it less formal. Moreoever Kel is under the weather =( He's too stressed over work.

Generally the turn out was great (but..not as good as last year). We are proud to have the Pre-D at UNSW Asia Campus and not in hotels like the previous years. Students came with their parents and shot me with tonns of questions after the seminar.

But it felt really good to talk to them and clearing their doubts, as well as to calm the worried parents. Com'on Sydney is a heaven. Kids..enjoy yourself!

Chub's Motto:

Work hard, Play even Harder!!!

Well...im a merit degree holder despite having tonns of fun and working at Sydney Exhibitions....cheyybah Aybah ! haha *yar...very haolian...so?* This juz proves that as long as you are discipline in school work - what's a lil fun during weekend, or beer breaks every day?

All the counselling was over in the next 60 minutes, and Kel decided we should juz hit the buffet.....but.....no more plates. HUh?! "......" Fine, we just have some barley cordial then. shheesshh...

Hmm...so sleepy right now. Cant even blog properly. Had been sleeping at 3 or 4 am over the weekends, working out the stuff for UNSW Asia Open House. Hmm..maybe should plan what i am going to do tomorow as well as Friday....yesh people, I am on leave! HOhoho...i have so many leaves..i have to clear them. Tomorow i will wake up earlier to watch Golden Globes. heee! People..i will email you as i watch lor....that is, IF the show gets boring, and i have the time to message =P Evening...yep.....Velvet Underground. =) *Hello, Booze*

Hmm..Friday...sleep in perhaps...then meet KH for lunch before he goes for recording =) Poor Ojiichan has been working at 4am shift. So many things to report mah? Soccer, F1...hmm...all the matches like the same wor.....e.g. Liverpool always KO. *hmm...i sense people staring oredi* Okok....it's a joke can, sorry sorry sorry? Liverpool WAN SHUI! "......" bleah

Wwwuuhhh huuu...after Friday, it will be 2 nights down to meeting Rain! hohohoho.

Types of Coffee...Mmmm...

Well the last blog i mentioned about how coffee can play a part in increasing your metabolism rate. But yes, BH did mention a point that caffeine do start a headache. I had experienced this before and as someone who had serious migraine and gastric problems, i seldom take coffee drips and even certain kind of coffee beans/ powder which ignites my gastric as soon as 5 minutes after drinking.

Here's some types of coffee that are on the cafe list. Some of which are still as good but milder for you. Take Latte, Flat White etc. Switch de-caf, Soy, Skimmed, NO extra cream for your frap! its unhealthy. Okie...bring it on. Here's what the manager of Lavazza introduced in the Crema Magazine.

Short Black - this is the standard espresso, 30ml of intense, dark coffee capped by a honey brown layer of crema or cream; should be rich & full-bodied, not thin or watery.

Long Black - a standard espresso with hot water, served in a regular coffee cup or mug. The hot water is added first, so the crema is maintained.

Latte - espresso with hot milk and a small head of dense froth, usually served in a glass.

Ristretto - very short shot, about 15ml of espresso (from the Italian for ‘restricted’) An intense, concentrated version of espresso.

Doppio - also known as double espresso. Two shots of espresso extracted to the same length as an espresso (ie around 35 mls). This is rocket fuel.

Cappuccino - a shot of espresso with densely frothed milk poured into it and dusted with chocolate powder. Note: the higher the 'mountain' of froth does not mean a better cappuccino; the froth should be 'domes' above the rim of the cup, and be dense and very creamy, not dry and tasteless.

Macchiato - espresso with a dash of milk added. Some cafes will use a
dash of foam; others a dash of milk and froth, or even just a splash of
cold milk. They are all correct! (The Italian expression means espresso
'stained' or 'marked' with milk) - usually served in a small [espresso or demitasse] cup.

Flat white - just a no-nonsense milky coffee - espresso with hot milk, no froth. The nearest option to 'cafe au lait'

Mocha - espresso, hot chocolate and steamed milk served in a glass.

New Year, New Resolution: Burning more calories

One frustrating thing about trying to lose weight is the snail’s pace at which the pounds seem to drop. Then there’s the harsh reality that the more weight you lose, the harder your body fights to hold on to the calories it gets and the fewer calories it burns. That’s usually about the time you hit the infamous weight-loss plateau--and start losing steam. But what if you could turbo-charge your weight-loss efforts without a lot of sacrifice?

That’s where this chapter comes in. The professionals had come up with easy ways to boost your metabolism, or the rate at which you burn calories. They've also thrown in ideas for cranking up the calorie burn of your workout--without making it longer. Taken together, these tips should be more than enough to shift your weight loss out of neutral and move it full speed ahead again.

Still, it’s important that you maintain a realistic expectation of what’s considered “healthy” weight loss. About a pound or two a week is ideal; much more than that is unlikely to last long-term.

Chubs says....

1. Sip green tea three times a day. A study from the University of Geneva in Switzerland found that in addition to caffeine, green tea contains catechin polyphenols, plant chemicals that may boost metabolism.

Chubs:  Swears by this, i drink about 2 pots a day.

2. Use interval training to rev up your workout. Walk for the same amount of time at the same intensity day in and day out and your body gets as bored with your workout as you do. Throw it a curveball with interval training, which involves varying the intensity of your workout throughout your exercise session. Every five minutes into your walk, jog for one minute. Every five minutes into your bike ride, shift into a higher gear and pedal hard for a minute. If you swim, turn on the speed every other lap. You’ll burn more calories in the same amount of time.

Chubs: *guilty* my only cardio is (1) walking to my car (2) walking to the office lobby.  Okie, Yoga does the trick too!

3. Fidget. People who drum their fingers or bounce their knees burn at least 500 calories a day! That adds up to losing a pound a week.

Chubs: No wonder ..... i was slim and in perfect shape when i jammed, played my piano and organ for hours.....*resume your hobby, chubs!*

4. Keep a small squeeze ball with you and work out your hands frequently during the day. It’s one of the few exercises you can do anytime. You’ll build up themuscles in your hands--and muscle, whether in your hands or legs, burns a lot of calories.

Chubs: Any other kinda ball?...... okok,  i will buy one .....

5. Don’t starve yourself. Cutting too many calories can backfire in more ways than one. Try to subsist on morsels and your metabolism will slow so much that you’ll not only stop losing weight, but you’ll be lucky if you can peel yourself off the couch.

Chubs: never starve yourself, it worsen the efforts okie? Eat well!

6. Put five rubber bands around your wrist every morning. That’s how many 16-ounce bottles of water you should drink during the day to rev your metabolism, helping burn more calories. At least, that’s what German researchers found when they had 14 participants drink about 17 ounces of water. The volunteers’ metabolic rate--or how quickly they burned calories--jumped a third within 10 minutes of drinking the water and remained high for another 30 or 40 minutes. The researchers estimated that over a year, increasing your water consumption by 1.5 liters a day (about 50 ounces) would burn an extra 17,400 calories, or about five pounds’ worth. Since much of the increased metabolic rate is due to the body’s efforts to heat the water, make sure the water you’re drinking is icy.

Chubs: Oohh...aint a reservoir, but im going to drink more water on top of the お茶.  Its good for your skin too my frens! =)  *rejoice H2O!*

7. Exercise outside. Maybe it’s the fresh air, maybe it’s the sunshine, but something about exercising in the open makes you walk or run faster than doing the same exercise in the gym.

Chubs: ........allergic to sun..... *excuse* i hate to get dark. heeeee. Okie...i will try.

8. Turn up the heat with hot peppers. Some studies show that very spicy foods can temporarily increase your metabolism. Gourmet groceries often stock a dozen different kinds of peppers. Buy one a week and practice adding some to various meals. Spice up your scrambled eggs with minced jalapeno, add a little fire to your beef stew with half a diced banana pepper, or pull together a spicy jambalaya (using turkey sausage and lots of veggies).

Chubs: GREAT!  Coz my favourite cuisine's indian! Hey...mediterranian food are good too!  Aww..Jambalaya..its yummmmy! you peeps SHOULD try!

9. Eat five small meals throughout the day instead of three large meals. You might think you should eat less often if you want to lose weight, but that's just not the case. By eating every few hours, you keep your metabolism fired up and ensure it doesn't slow between meals in order to hang on to calories. A "meal" can be as small as a cup of soup.

Chubs: hmm...being an anaconda, guess this is easy stuff for me. only thing is...i must make sure it is 5......  S-M-A-L-L meals... =P

10. Sip a couple of cups of coffee throughout the day. Studies find that the caffeine in coffee increases the rate at which your body burns calories. This does not mean, however, that you can order one of those fancy calorie-packed frappuccinos! And skip the java if it makes you toss and turn at night.

Chubs: yippie! Kofi are definitely in my blood stream everday.  Peers, skip fatso latte! Have soy latte or skimmed.  My usuals are soy lattes, but the best latte is from Esmees as well as the coffee carts outside quadrangle and outside UNSW library... I miss you coffe-cart-guys who remember my coffee likings! =(
